Services

Software development services

We design, build and support software across web, mobile, desktop and cloud. You can engage us for a complete product, a single component, or specialist help alongside your own team.

Web applications

Business software that runs in a browser, on any computer, tablet or phone.

Web applications suit work that involves several people, a shared set of records and a need to find things again later: bookings, jobs, inspections, approvals, orders or customer accounts. Nothing needs to be installed, and updates reach every user at once.

We start from the tasks people perform each day and design the screens around them. Search, filtering, exports, permissions and a clear history of who changed what are built in from the first version, because they are usually the features people miss most once a system is in daily use.

Typical work

  • Customer and supplier portals
  • Job, booking and scheduling systems
  • Internal admin tools and approval workflows
  • Reporting dashboards and data exports
  • Replacing Microsoft Access, spreadsheet or legacy systems

What you receive

  • A responsive application that works on desktop and mobile browsers
  • Hosting set up in your own cloud account
  • Source code in a repository you own
  • User and administrator documentation

iPhone and Android apps

Apps for the jobs that happen away from a desk.

A mobile app makes sense when people need the camera, location, notifications, or have to work somewhere without reliable mobile coverage. We build apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, either natively or with a shared cross-platform codebase, depending on what the app needs to do and who will maintain it.

Where an app sits alongside a web system, both use the same accounts and the same data, so a record captured on a phone appears in the office straight away. We also handle the release side: developer accounts, TestFlight and Google Play testing, store listings, privacy disclosures and responding to App Review.

Typical work

  • Field and site apps with offline capture and later sync
  • Photo, signature and document capture
  • Customer-facing apps with accounts and notifications
  • Companion apps for an existing web platform
  • Updates and fixes for apps built by someone else

What you receive

  • Apps published under your organisation’s App Store and Google Play accounts
  • Test builds for your team before release
  • Store listing text, screenshots and privacy details
  • A maintained codebase for future versions

Desktop software

Windows and macOS applications where the browser is not enough.

Some work still belongs on the desktop: processing large local files, talking to attached hardware such as scanners, printers or measurement equipment, running for long periods without a connection, or fitting into an organisation’s managed computers.

We build desktop applications and utilities that install cleanly, sign correctly, update themselves and can be deployed through device management tools.

Typical work

  • Utilities for file conversion, reporting and data processing
  • Applications that connect to local or USB and Bluetooth devices
  • Offline-capable tools that sync with a cloud service
  • Signed and notarised installers for Windows and macOS

What you receive

  • Code-signed installers ready for distribution
  • Update and deployment approach suited to your environment
  • Source code and build instructions

Cloud and back-end systems

The servers, APIs and databases your applications depend on.

Most of our systems run on Amazon Web Services. We design back ends that are secure by default, affordable to run at a small scale, and able to grow without being rebuilt. Infrastructure is defined in code, so environments can be recreated and changes are reviewed like any other change.

We also review and tidy existing cloud environments: tightening access, adding backups and monitoring, and reducing monthly costs that have grown without anyone noticing.

Typical work

  • REST and GraphQL APIs for web and mobile apps
  • Database design, migration and reporting
  • Serverless and container-based hosting on AWS
  • Backups, monitoring, alerting and cost reviews
  • Migration from on-premises or older hosting

What you receive

  • Infrastructure defined as code in your repository
  • Separate test and production environments
  • Deployment pipeline and a written runbook
  • Cloud accounts owned by your organisation

Sign-in, identity and security

Getting the right people into the right parts of a system, and keeping everyone else out.

Identity and access control is where many systems become difficult to change later, so we design it early. We implement standard sign-in with passkeys, multi-factor authentication, and single sign-on with Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace and Sign in with Apple, using established identity providers rather than custom password handling.

For business software, we set up roles and permissions, tenant separation for multi-customer products, and audit logs that show who did what and when. We also help teams prepare for customer security questionnaires.

Typical work

  • Single sign-on (OIDC and SAML) and multi-factor authentication
  • Roles, permissions and multi-tenant data separation
  • Audit trails and secure file and evidence storage
  • Security reviews of existing applications

What you receive

  • A documented access model
  • Configured identity provider integration
  • Security notes suitable for customer due diligence

Integrations and automation

Connecting systems so information moves without re-keying.

Most businesses already rely on several services, including accounting, payments, email, calendars, CRM and mapping. We connect your software to them through their published APIs and webhooks, and automate the repetitive steps in between.

Integrations are built with retries, logging and alerts, so a failure at a third-party provider is noticed and recovered rather than silently losing data.

Typical work

  • Payments and subscriptions with Stripe
  • Accounting system integration
  • Email, SMS and notification services
  • Maps, routing and location data
  • Scheduled data imports, exports and reports

What you receive

  • Reliable, monitored integrations
  • Documentation of each connection and its credentials owner

Technology consulting

Practical advice for decisions that are expensive to reverse.

Before committing to a build, it often helps to have an independent technical view. We advise on build-versus-buy decisions, architecture, cloud and identity setup, and preparing a product for the App Store and Google Play.

We also help organisations set up Apple and Windows device management, including Apple Business Manager and mobile device management, so company devices and in-house apps can be deployed and managed properly.

Typical work

  • Technical review of an idea, quote or existing system
  • Architecture and platform selection
  • Apple Business Manager, MDM and device deployment
  • App Store and Google Play readiness reviews

What you receive

  • A written recommendation with options, costs and risks
